Hi I am now over 6 weeks late, I have taken a few pregnancy tests but they have come back negative. However I am not satisfied with that result because I have been getting a lot of white discharge and blotting. What should I do?

Six weeks late and negative pregnancy test

It is an interesting scenario, but one that is more common than you might think. There are really a number of reasons why you may get a negative pregnancy test and still be pregnant.

The most common is that the test was not taken correctly. Each test is different and you will need to read the directions before taking it.

Most require you to either hold the test in your urine stream for X number of seconds or in a test cup of urine for X number of seconds. If this is not done, the test may report a negative result.

The second most common reason for a false negative pregnancy test is that the women did not wait long enough to take it.

If you are six weeks late with your period, this should not be a problem. It is best to visit your doctor and have blood pregnancy test done to make sure.

Stress is a common cause of a late or missed period. If you are trying to conceive, you may find that your stress level is higher than normal. Maybe it is time to see if nature will take its course.

However, if you go more than two months without a period and you are not pregnant, it is time to see your doctor to determine why.

There are medications available that will start your period again and the doctor can rule out any specific causes. Do not delay, as you do not want to have a condition that may prevent you from becoming pregnant in the future.

Get a blood test

Go to your doctor and he or she will most likely give you a blood test, which can be more sensitive than the HPT urine tests. Even if you are not pregnant you still want to see a doctor because if you are missing your period and having unusual discharge it may be something else. Hope things work out for you.
