Antibiotics and Birth Control

I was recently on antibiotics (penicillin)and I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend, about 3 weeks ago. I was still taking the pill as normal. However I recently read that the pill might be ineffective whilst on antibiotics.

Since then I have had incredibly swollen, sore and tender breasts (they usually swell up before my period, but not to this extent). I feel as though I have put on some extra weight, I feel exhausted even after having 10-11 hours of sleep and I am very moody and very sensitive at the moment. I have had no blood spotting the past few weeks, however a week after I would have conceived, I had period pain like stomach cramps that would last for 10 seconds, then disappear. I have had short spells of nausea the past week or so. Today I ate a slice of pizza, then an hour later when I sat near the plate it had been I became incredibly sensitive to the smell of it and it was enough to make me feel sick. I still feel sick now, 3 hours later.

I took a pregnancy test 2 weeks after I would have conceived but it was negative.

And today i got my period, which is within the usual cycle, and it is not heavy nor light. I 'feel' pregnant though, and I'm so confused! Can these be false pregnancy symptoms?

Hormones

If you got your period then it would seem you are probably not pregnant. False pregnancy signs can be caused by changes in the level of hormones in your body. Like if you stopped taking the pill or took a different brand for example.

If the antibiotics interfered with the pill (hormone pill) then it also interfered with your body's hormone balance. That could have caused nausea, moodiness, tender breasts, etc.

That is what happened to someone I know, but of course talk to your doctor about this and get a medical opinion when you do a follow up with the doctor about your antibiotics and treatment.
