Bladder infection during pregnancy?

(Canada)

When I was younger I had bladder infections a lot but as time went by they started becoming less and less frequent until they were gone completely.

Now that I am pregnant they seem to be coming back. I was just wondering if this was common, what I can do about it, and if I will continue having them again after pregnancy or if they will disappear again?

One of the most common complications during pregnancy is a bladder infection. An infection is often caused by the growing uterus sitting directly on top of your bladder and Urethra - which are tubes which lead from your kidneys to your bladder. This can block the flow of urine.

Because this is such a common issue, your health care provider should test regularly for a bladder infection during your pregnancy.

Symptoms? Hmmmmm, let's see here... You may experience pain or a burning sensation while urinating, pelvic discomfort or low abdominal pain or cloudy urine.

One of the ways to avoid this issue is to drink plenty of water, empty your bladder often, try to avoid sprays, powders and strong soap, wear 100% cotton underwear and try not to wear pantyhose for lengthy periods of time.

If you suspect you may have this infection, call your doctor immediately!
