Brown spotting instead of period?

I usually have normal periods. I have a regular period every month, always on the 16th. Then five months down the line, I am a week late and I get in on the 23rd. Then I start getting it on the 23rd like clock work! My periods are always the same; heavy flow for three-to-five days and then some random spotting. There is nothing irregular about what happens when it arrives, it is always the same!

That is, until now. This time I spotted, I had the brown spotting instead of a period. Once a day it would happen, or only when I would wipe. This went on for almost three weeks. It seems to have disappeared now, but I still have not had a normal period and my next cycle is due in a week.

Should I wait to see if I get my period in a week or should I go to the doctor or take a test?

Could I be pregnant? I have some signs. My nipples are very sensitive and getting a bit darker around the edges (only a little bit) and veins I hadn't seen before are appearing. They are sore too but not all the time. I feel like I'm going to puke if I don't eat when I'm hungry.

I also got the flu and have flu-like symptoms where I couldn't breathe, had severe headaches, was so tired it was a pain in the butt to get up to pee. I'd hold it because I was too tired to get up. I have no motivation to do much because all I wanna do is lay down. Even after my flu was over, I constantly sneeze and blow my nose and I get headaches and I'm still so so so so tired - but have trouble sleeping. Could I be pregnant or is it a long-drawn-out case of the flu?

That sounds just like me! I spotted for 3-weeks and had a negative HPT. Now a week or so after spotting stopped my nipples are very sore. And I had lower back pain right above my buns today.... I haven't tested yet. What were your results?

Flu-like symptoms

If you are sick with the flu, exhausted and under stress, that could cause a normal missed period, due to there being a fluctuation in your hormone balance. A pregnancy test might be a good idea. Brown spotting might just be old blood that is being discharged. It might be there due to the changes in your regular cycles you have had lately.

However it would be wise to talk to a doctor. If your periods keep changing and you are experiencing all of those flu-like symptoms you really should get down to the doctor right away and tell them what is going on. Hope you get well soon.
