Can you be pregnant even if you got your period?

Can you still get pregnant even though you got your period like usual? We were intimate once a week for the past three weeks and he use the withdrawal method. My menstruation came the day after the most recent day we were together. Am I safe or is there a chance that I could still get pregnant? Or since my period came along does that mean we avoided pregnancy?

It happens sometimes
by: Sarah

Most physicians will tell you that you cannot be pregnant if you get your period.

Your period occurs when the blood rich lining of the uterus is flushed from the body when pregnancy doesn?t happen.

If implantation occurs before then, the body produces the HCG hormone, which keeps your period from starting.

This means that medically, you cannot be pregnant if you have your period.

However, this does not mean that you might not have some bleeding.

Many women experience implantation bleeding when the egg burrows into the lining of the uterus. This can range from very light brown or pinkish discharge to a little heavier bleeding.

Many women also experience spotting and bleeding from an exam, such as for a Pap smear. Some spotting is okay with your pregnancy, but you should never bleed as you would with your normal period.

If this happens, contact your doctor immediately.

Away from medical science, you?ll find that many women have periods while they are pregnant.

The reason is not really known, but there have been reports of women having their period for two or three months, or even longer, into their pregnancy.

The general consensus is that the hormone levels in these women affect their periods, pregnancy, and in some cases, the baby.

However, you may have a difficult time convincing your doctor that you are indeed having your period while you are pregnant.

If at any time you feel you are bleeding more is recommended, you should call your doctor or go directly to the emergency room.

Cramps and Headaches?

My period came on the 1st and left on the 4th. Then my fiance and I made love on the 14th. Is that a fertile time? Can I be pregnant if I have cramps like PMS and head aches?

Paranoid?

I have kind of the same question, my boyfriend and I have also been having unprotected sex and withdrawing. The following day after the last time we were together I started my period, but it was a really heavy period, much heavier than usual and with really bad cramping, which I haven't suffered with for years. The period also came about a week and a half before it was due. Can this be a sign of anything, or am I just being paranoid?

Usually not

In most cases if you got your monthly menstruation right on schedule and it is a normal one like you usually have every month, then you are probably not pregnant. One of the main signs of pregnancy is when you miss your period and you did not miss yours. But there is always a chance however. Some women do get pregnant and then still have a period. It is usually a lighter one however. It is best to be sure, so wait a few days after your cycle is over and try a pregnancy test. Also keep in mind for the future that many unplanned pregnancies are a result of the withdrawal method so you will always be worrying if you do that method and you might also end up pregnant.
