Early pregnancy blood test?

I am almost 2 weeks late. I took a home pregnancy test when I was one week late and it came out negative. My breasts are swollen and sore. I get irritated easily and I'm moody. My lower back hurts at times and I am nauseated sometimes and I get tired easily. Should I do another home pregnancy test or should I have an early pregnancy blood test done? I don't have a doctor or insurance. Where can I go to get a blood test done and how much does it cost and how soon do you get the results?

Early Pregnancy Blood Test
by: Bethany

The early pregnancy blood test, also called early pregnancy serum test, measures the amount of human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG within the blood stream.

hCG is the pregnancy hormone produced by the placenta. Detection of the hormone is possible within about 10 days of fertilization or about a day or two after implantation.

To perform the blood test, a blood sample is drawn from the vein in the hand or forearm. THe drawn blood sample is sent to a laboratory to determine the exact hCG amount in the blood.

The cost of the test could vary from one lab to another so it would be better to search for a lab that offers reasonable fees.

Any pregnant woman could take an early pregnancy blood test for several times especially if there are concerns about progress of pregnancy.

2 negative tests

I have also taken two home pregnancy tests that have come up negative. I have sore swollen breasts, mood swings, missed period, feeling hot, bloated, tired. I don't have these kinds of typical pregnancy symptoms usually during PMS like some women do. Could I be pregnant even with the two negative tests? I guess that is what the blood test would tell me for sure?

5 days before the due of my menstruation, I had a light bleeding for around 1 and a half days only. It's very unusual for me. After that, it stopped.

My two pregnancy test results were both negative. Yet I am experiencing all the pregnancy symptoms except breast tenderness.

I really feel very different now because of what I feel with myself that I can't explain. My stomach always feel like it is full. I eat a lot and I have cravings for food. I am very moody now and I can't hide it. I easily get tired and I experienced having white discharge that is very sticky. I also have to go urine a lot. I am very lazy to wake up in the morning to work. I have migraine headaches and a lot more.

Even though I have all of these signs and symptoms of pregnancy my home pregnancy tests still come out negative. So I will now try a blood test. Thank you for the idea.

Take another home pregnancy test if you would like. You can also go to planned parenthood and have a blood test done there. You get your results during your visit and it costs about $30 or so, which is not bad for getting your results right then and there. You would pay more going to a doctors office without insurance. Hope this helps..Good Luck!! :]

Hi there, I am now 8 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and with both pregnancies I initially had negative home pregnancy tests, so wait a few days and do another 1 or 2 tests!

You can get 'false negative" result when you actually are expecting, because your hormones may be a little low for home test to register a result yet.

Go see a doctor soon also for a hcg/pregnancy blood test- good luck ;)

I think that you should take another home test. Sometimes home tests can read wrong if they are not done right or are taken to early. Also you could go to your local health department and they should be able to give you a test and you will not have to pay anything.
