How can I choose the gender of my baby?

by Fran

Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can do before conception to choose the gender of my baby? I have one child now and I'm getting ready to have another. It would be nice to have one of each gender, one boy and one girl.

If there is no way to choose the gender of a baby then that is okay too, I will let nature takes its course and be happy. It is just that I have heard people saying there were some days of the ovulation that were better for one or the other gender, and number of days the man should wait between when you try, various love positions (LOL) and other talk. Is it just old wives' tales or can you really influence the gender?

It's all about the sperm

Apparently the different sexes of sperm travel at different speeds. It has something to do with the tails of the sperm and when they drop off. I'd talk to a fertility doctor about it. Good luck :)

Unfortunately, there is no 100% surefire way of choosing the gender of your baby. It is the sperm that determines whether a baby will be a boy or a girl. The egg has nothing to do with it.

While there are no scientific methods to help you conceive only a boy or a girl, there are several old wives? tales that promise you that you can choose the sex of your child. However, none of them have been proven to be 100% effective.

Some people believe that if you want a girl, you should have sex several times a week or two before your ovulate. For a boy, abstain from sex until the day you ovulate.

How does this work? According to this theory, this works because the female sperm will survive longer than the male sperms. A male sperm will generally survive about 12 hours. A female sperm can survive three to four days. Once the male sperm has died, the female sperm is all that is left for ovulation.

This is not a scientific method, but it is becoming more and more popular today.

The Shettles Method is also popular and involves using an alkaline douche. Others swear by positions, timing of intercourse, vitamin and mineral supplements, and even different foods.

When it all comes down to it, there is still no scientific way to choose the gender of your baby. It is simply a 50/50 chance of a boy or a girl. However, there is nothing wrong with trying one or all of the above methods ? as long as your doctor says it's okay - just in case they do work!

It is possible

Check out the Billings Ovulation Method. It worked for me, my sister and a friend.

I'm not positive about this but someone I talked to said that she took certain types of herbs when she was trying to conceive. She wanted a girl the first time, and then two boys. And that's what she has. You might want to do some research and see if there are any herbs that you could take to help with the gender of your baby. But always be careful with herbs and get your doctor's approval first because herbs can have other side effects. Good Luck!!!
