How soon can you get pregnant

I am wondering how soon can you get pregnant after you stop taking the birth control pill? How long do you have to wait until the effects wear off and you start ovulating and are ready to conceive a baby?

I also asked that question and my doctor told me that it takes 6 months for birth control to fully clear your system. My 6th month of being off the pill was at the beginning of July and I found out I was 3 weeks pregnant on August 5,2008.
