Is it possible to be pregnant and still get your period?

I was wondering if it is possible to have your period when you are pregnant. I'm freaking out a little about this. I have heard conflicting opinions of this so do any moms out there have real life experiences they could share? Thanks a lot.

Most Medical Community Believes it is not Possible

Most of the medical community believes that it is impossible to be pregnant and still get your period.

Physicians state that bleeding during the first few weeks of pregnancy is quite common, labeling it ?implantation bleeding? or ?breakthrough bleeding.?

This is usually a result of a fertilized egg implanting itself into the blood-rich lining of the uterus.

This type of bleeding may be very light, with just a small discharge of pinkish or brownish mucus. It can also be somewhat substantial for a day or so.

Many women believe that they continue to have their period for the first month or two of their pregnancy.

During your period, the lining of your uterus is flushed from your body. It stands to reason that you would not have your period if pregnancy occurs because your hormones signal the body not to release this lining.

The bleeding that many women experience is usually quite less than a normal period.

However, if you experience spotting or other bleeding while you are pregnant, you need to tell your doctor as soon as possible.

If you can?t reach your physician, then you should go to the emergency room to make sure your pregnancy is not in jeopardy.

Some women state they continue to have periods the entire length of their pregnancy. However, this could be due to some sort of hormonal imbalance in their bodies.

However, you may have a difficult time convincing your doctor that you are having your period while you are pregnant!

Sometimes yes

Some women I know have been pregnant and then had a light period. It seems odd I know but it really does happen sometimes because your body is so used to having one I guess.
