Linea Nigra boy or girl?

Can the linea nigra - the "dark line" on your pregnant tummy - predict if you will have a boy or girl baby? I heard that if it expands up till the breast area we can expect the baby to be of the male gender.

I had linea nigra with my first child that indicated a boy but it was a girl!!!!!!!!!! :-)

So you see it doesn't count as a true indicator.

Not entirely a myth

While there is no single, 100% reliable predictor of the baby's sex (other than genetic testing of amniotic fluid!), I'd say the linea nigra test is a lot better than 50/50 (probably more like 75/25) based on the numerous pregnant women I've cared for in my career as a doctor.

Not really, it is an old wive's tale

A lot of people talk about how the Linea Nigra on a pregnant tummy might predict a boy or girl baby. But many people who have the line indicating a boy actually end up having a girl, and those with the signs of having a girl often have a boy. So the dark line is simply part of the pregnancy for some women and does not indicate the baby gender.
