During menopause can you have an allergic reaction to alcohol in drinks or when there is alcohol in foods? I have heard about menopause alcohol intolerance and would like more information.

Alcohol allergy in menopause
by: Dee

Yes many women have talked about how they suffered from alcohol intolerance as one of the symptoms of menopause that they went through.

It can also be a sign of adrenal stress.

What can happen is that when the hormones start changing during menopause, the body may not be at peak health and is not up to the task of handling the hormone fluctuations.

If somebody is tired, stressed, over-worked, sleep-deprived, having anxiety, living on junk food, lacking vitamins -- and suffering from adrenal stress -- they can have more menopause symptoms than someone else who is in the best healthy condition.

In that case the person may show symptoms of both menopause and adrenal stress. Alcohol might contribute to or aggravate various symptoms.

Some ideas to improve adrenal health include avoiding alcohol and only eating healthy foods and beverages, going for a walk to get some exercise, meditating to relax, trying a yoga class, taking some woman's health supplements, and reading the book "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" to learn how to have fewer worries.
