Pregnancy test false negative?

I missed my period two months in a row now. I had a home pregnancy test during my first missed period about 1 week late into my period. And then I had a blood test about 3 weeks late into my first missed period and both came back negative. Now this is my 2nd month that I have missed my period. Can I still be pregnant even thought both test came back negative? What is the pregnancy test false negative rate?

Possible

A few things... it is always possible to get a false negative test but very unlikely to get a false positive. Your body may have just not produced enough hormones to pick up on.

My ex boyfriend's girlfriend was having no periods or very light periods and she took a few test that all came out negative - and then she went to the doctor and that came out negative too. But fast forward 6 months and she started feeling movement and she went back to the doctor and they did an ultrasound and were like congrats you are 8 months pregnant.

So it is possible. If you really think that you are pregnant you can request an ultrasound.

Try a blood test

About 25% of home pregnancy tests done can give a false-negative result. This is not to say that such tests are not accurate. In fact, such home pregnancy tests are up to 97% accurate. However, pregnancy tests could possibly be negative although you are actually pregnant.

Why does this happen? When you use home pregnancy tests, there are a variety of things that can possibly bring about false results.

First, if you are taking a pregnancy test too early, chances are greater that you could have a false negative result.

Second, it is possible that your body has still not yet started creating an amount of hCG that can be measured by the pregnancy test. It would take time (about 14 days of pregnancy) before enough hormone is released to be detected in tests.

A third possible cause of false negative results in pregnancy tests is user error. Some of the test instructions can be confusing and not everyone follows them correctly.

Overall, if you feel sure you are pregnant but your home pregnancy tests always give false negative results, your best bet is to have a blood test done at a doctor's office so you can be more certain. The blood tests are super accurate.

Hope this helps!

It depends what brand of test it was, you can find out their accuracy online and they are never accurate, it depends on your body and how easily it gives away its HCG reading really.

You must remember you could simply be irregular or experiencing an ectopic pregnancy- not an actual one. If you are really unsure and want a certain 100% guarantee then get a pregnancy test done at your doctors. Hope this helps x
