Pregnancy Week 10

Pregnancy Week 10 is an exciting time. Take a deep breath because in just a couple more weeks you should start realizing some significant relief from morning sickness. This week you will most likely have had the chance to listen to the heartbeat of your baby for the first time at your doctor’s clinic. This experience of hearing for the first time, the sound of the heartbeat of your baby is a memory you will always cherish. This is a great time to invite your partner to go along with you during your prenatal visit.

In these early weeks it is important to remember that any contact with toxins for the period of your pregnancy can be dangerous or harmful for you and your baby. The health of your baby will depend upon your health so you must take care and protect yourself. Stay away from cleaning compounds, fumes, and chemicals of any kind.

This is also the week where you will start to somewhat feel that something is changing in your body. Your stomach might start to stick out somewhat but it will be more from the distension of the bowel than the uterus. Ready or not, your waist size will start to increase.

The volume of your blood will grow by 40 – 50 percent; you will also notice the veins upon your legs, tummy and breasts are more colorful and noticeable. You will observe the changes in your weight, the softening of your gums, frequent moodiness and the possible blotchiness of your skin.

If you eat healthy foods, the added weight will probably come off later more rapidly and easily. On the other hand, bear in mind that the most significant thing you must avoid to do is go on a diet while you’re pregnant. The best pregnancy fitness plan that is healthy but helps prevent gaining too much extra weight is Pregnancy Without Pounds. They have a free Mini-Course about how to stay in shape during your pregnancy... and look amazing afterward.

Also this week of your pregnancy, the brain of your baby is increasing at a rapid speed, producing several neurons per minute. Your doctor may probably recommend that you take a high quality fish oil capsule to help the baby's brain develop to its full potential.

Some studies have found the DHA in fish oil to be very helpful in supporting healthy baby development.

Other studies are finding that fish oil might even help prevent miscarriage.

One such study was: Rossi E, Costa M., Fish oil derivatives as a prophylaxis of recurrent miscarriage associated with antiphospholipid antibodies (APL): a pilot study. Lupus 1993;2:319-23.

Just be sure to get only the highest quality pure fish oil for you and your baby.

Pregnancy week 10 also marks the start of the period of fetal growth which will continue until birth. The body systems of your baby, such as the nervous system, circulatory system, digestive system and reproductive system are fully shaped during this period. The heartbeat of the baby’s heart is around 160-170 beats every minute.

Your baby will also start to be more energetic then before; however the movement of the baby is still too little for you to notice. His arms and legs will start to move, which can be observed in the ultrasound.

The joints of your baby will be fully shaped, including his feet, small hand, toes and fingers. Also during this week, the eyes of your baby are frequently open. However the eyelids are starting to fuse. It will stay that way until your pregnancy reaches 25 to 27 weeks.

The exterior genitalia are starting to show, so when you see the ultrasound you can discover the gender of your baby. He or she is also showing the growth of little ears, and at this time the upper lip is beginning to take form. This week, the biggest change in your baby is the disappearance of his little "tail."
