Premature Menopause Signs?

by Georgie

I think I may be menopausal. I have IBS symptoms, palpitations, coming over faint, feeling hot and sweaty, periods of feeling light-headed and serious fatigue, strange aching in my breasts, put on a lot of weight in last few years, no periods for at least 3 years, pain during sex, cramps in legs, joint pains... Really worried about the health implications because of my age (37). Am I going through "the change" so soon?

Pre-mature Menopause Signs
by: Sue

If menopause comes before a woman?s 40th birthday, it is generally thought to be premature menopause.

Some women find menopause liberating; but if it comes too soon at a younger age, this premature menopause can be bad news to women who had still been hoping to start a family.

Here are some signs of premature menopause.

First, there could be irregular menstrual cycles, which would be noticeable especially when a woman has always been regular.

Second, there could be the notorious hot flashes. It is like a wave of heat starting from the neck or head area going down the body, often along with a headache and sweating.

Speaking of sweating, aside from hot flashes, there could also be night sweats. These make it difficult to enjoy a good night's sleep.

Some other symptoms might be bladder irritability, vaginal dryness, and incontinence.

There can also be mood swings, insomnia, decreased sexual drive, and feelings of stress.

Premature menopause may cause infertility as the ovaries slow down or stop producing and releasing egg cells that are ready for fertilization. That is also the reason why menstrual flows stop during this stage in life.

There is a theory that premature menopause could be hereditary. If your mother or sisters have suffered from it, chances might be greater that you could have the same experience.

I too have not had a period in 3.5 years. Doctor wasn't worried back then, thought it was due to my severe depression - however 3.5 years later, been off the pill 10 months now, no period still.

I truly believe I am going through early menopause and so desperately need to find out, as I do want kids, however that may not be possible (weird because I always had the gut feeling I'd never have kids??!!)

If I get any tests done and when I get my results, I will let you know.

Back problems?
by: Anonymous

Try seeking the help of a chiropractor. I had my ovaries checked out years ago as they were always hurting but nothing wrong, all OK then I went to see a chiropractor as had injured my back again.

After a while my pains in my ovaries went away.

Back pain is linked to all sorts of other pains. Regarding no periods, again get a blood test for thyroids etc etc. just read up on here.

I have learnt and understood a lot finally and can now ask and insist on tests from my GP. not having periods for a long time i.e over a year is called amenorrhea - yes it actually has a word and should be pushed under a carpet if you gp tries.. it is serious.

I after 3.5 years of not having a period, been off the pill 10 months am going to my local GUM clinic to get properly checked!

I hope I am not menopausal as I am only 37 and have no children but if I am then so be it.

Good luck
Antonia
