Sore breasts after period - PMS?

by Ash
(NY)

I have been trying to have a baby. My last period was nine days late and it was extremely light and only lasted four days. I took a pregnancy test at the doctor's office and it was negative. Now I am having sore breasts a week after my period is over. Could I have a chance of being pregnant or is this breast tenderness a symptom of PMS?

Might be caused by BC pills

Having tender or sore breasts is a very common PMS symptom. It is caused by changes in the levels of the hormones progesterone and estrogen.

But if you get sore breasts a week after the monthly period is over, it might not be PMS, it might be something else.

One example would be that it is a pregnancy symptom. However if it happens every month it can't be that.

The other possibility is that something else is causing a change in hormones.

Are you on the pill? Hormone fluctuations can be caused by taking the BC pill and how you have to stop/start/stop/start taking it every month. Your body may feel an adjustment when you go back on it again after your period. It might be that it is too strong for you or your body is tired of it or something like that. Ask your doctor about this.

A few kinds of foods have estrogen-like activity. One food that has effects on hormones is soy. That is why women in menopause drink soy milk, they want it to have an effect. But if you are not in menopause and do not want anything to have an effect on your hormones then maybe you do NOT want to drink or eat soy. Get the soy out of your diet and see if that helps your soreness.

Another food that can mimic hormone activity is flaxseed and flax seed oil.

Check food labels for soy, soy oil, flax seed and flax seed oil. These can be found in bread, breakfast cereal, crackers, frozen foods, etc.
