I'm still menstruating at age 58. I did skip 2 cycles, but I just got it again. Should I be concerned? No one else I know is still having periods at my age.
Same here. I am 58 and 1/2 and had a period in June (on Premarin for 10 days). Then I had none until October (no Premarin). I can't believe it.
Two years ago I asked my GYN who was the oldest woman she knew who was still having periods. She said 58! We are supposed to be in menopause by now but who knows?
I don't think anything is wrong. I've had all the tests. No tumors, no funky blood work, no cancer. But I'm tired of buying pads. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow. Hope you get some answers too!
58 and Menstruating by: Kate
I'll be 59 in April and I still get quite strong periods. Not regularly but often enough. I think, 'Yehah!!! They're gone!!' and next thing I know, they're back.
I always feel assaulted though... get a cold and cold sores as if my body can't cope with the stress any more and retaliates in another way. 'Tis a PEST!
58 and still menstruating by: Sandy
Thanks, ladies I don't feel alone now. I just got another yesterday--very brown. Two months ago I had one that lasted 5 days and was dark brown and tar-like. My GP said it sounds like old blood trying to clean itself out. I'm seeing my GYN in 3 weeks. I'll be 59 in April also. Anyone else out there still having periods at 58-59?
59 in 3 months and still menstruating by: Sandy
My gynecologist, who has always been conservative, now suggests I consider a hysterectomy. He said I'll be preventing future problems. I asked him to do another endometrial biopsy, but he wants me to see a surgeon. My sonogram showed a thick walled complex cyst on one ovary that looked like a corpus luteal cyst. I'm not a big fan of surgery, but he's been my gyno for over 30 years and I trust him. I'm getting really nervous.
Still menstruating at 58 (59 in 4 weeks!) by: Anonymous
I am still having my period as well. I was worked up for ovarian cancer this past summer and everything came back fine, but the ob/gyn I went to said he never saw anyone my age still getting periods.
I am having irregular periods now and menopause hot flashes at night which is actually a relief, because I have felt like a freak of nature.
I would still like to know why I am going through menopause at such a late age. My mother died at 60 and she was not having her period until the day she died. Why am I still having mine?
Me, too! by: Anonymous
Hey girls,
I just turned 59 and I'm still having a period (though not regularly). The only bad thing is I never know when it's coming. But the good news is I heard it keeps you from aging! By the way, most people think I?m in my early forties?
Wish you all good health.

Even older! by: Debby
I'll be 60 next month and I'm still going strong! Stopped for 6 months and thought I was done, but now I've had 3 very heavy periods in the past 3 months. Sheesh, will this ever end?
Still having periods after age 60. by: Anonymous
I am now 60-1/2 and still am having periods. They have become irregular, like every 2 to 3 months interva.
I have had a vaginal ultrasound and my uterine lining is finally starting to thin out. Doctor said all else is normal.
FSH, shows estrogen being lower than it was a year ago.
Had biopsy done in uterine all normal, had pap test, all normal.
Doctor said unless I am having a problem leave it up to nature to take care when I finally will not have any more periods.
I saw an article that the oldest woman still having periods is now 63.
I do take a lot of herbs and vitamins and do not look my age.
Just turned 58 and still menstruating by: Liz
Every time I think I am finally done with menstruating, and am doing the countdown, my period happens.
I am so glad I read all these stories. Now I don't feel so alone. I get it every few months, not heavy, thank goodness. I too don't tell people I am still getting it.
Menstrating at 58 by: Anonymous
Just turned 58 and still menstruating. Not too often. Just got it after three months. Was having hot flashes strongly. Suddenly hot flashes stopped and around three weeks later I got my period. Hope its the last one.
Thank you all for your comments. It is good to hear that it is so common.
58 and still going :( by: Anonymous
Went one year and thought I was finished. Then there it is again. Went another year, but then had one last month and having another this month. Last checkup everything was fine, but this has gotta stop LOL!
me too still having periods. by: Jessica
I am 58 and I still have my period. All of my friends that are younger than me are done. I did not have a period for 6 months, and then I got one out of the blue. It was so heavy I thought about going to the urgent care. Now my doctor wants me to get a sonogram, to see what is going on. I should be done with my periods by now. I cannot wait until they are finally gone.
