When do you ovulate?
by: Nerissa

In general, women ovulate on average fourteen days before the start their period.

This schedule varies some from woman to woman. There are, however, ways to maximize your fertilization window.

The egg lives about twenty-four hours after it has been released. Your doctor can explain the two most popular ways of tracking ovulation.

There is also an ovulation detection kit available over the counter that may help to guide your specific ovulation schedule.

You can also track your temperature over the course of two months or so to see when your temperature rises slightly. When your temperature elevates at a regular interval, you are likely ovulating.

Once you can better see your ovulation window, you can better understand when you will get pregnant.

Since the egg is only is only viable for approximately 24 hours after its release, and sperm can live in the birth canal for as many as 72 hours you can see that timing is everything.

This allows you to become pregnant for a longer time than what was originally thought.

Having this additional information allows us to know that intercourse prior to ovulation likely results in pregnancy, as does having intercourse at the time of ovulation.

You will also be interested to know that more than one egg can be released at one time. If this happens it is likely that both eggs will become fertilized. This is how fraternal twins are created.

There are also many old wives tales that have counted each generation and their sets of twins to inform you if you are the next generation to give birth to twins. While entertaining, these stories are not at all dependable.

You ovulate 14 days from your period
by: Anonymous

If your cycle is 28 days then you would usually ovulate around 14 days from the end of the period. So if you are trying to conceive and want to get pregnant, just wait two weeks after the end of your period and then get busy :) Best wishes for a beautiful baby.
