When is the best time to take a pregnancy test?

by Lindsay

I am still breastfeeding my daughter who is 9 months and I have gotten my periods back though they are irregular. My husband and I have been having sex. It's been 10 days and I've been cramping like I'm gonna get a period. My last one was 30 days ago so I'm due now, but because I'm irregular I don't know how long I should wait to try a pregnancy test. HELP!lol

If you do not want to attain a false negative or false positive result in your pregnancy test, you should do it at the proper time.

So far, experts assert that the best time to undergo or take a pregnancy test is a day after a regular menstrual period.

For example, if you have been expecting your period to come yesterday according to your usual calculations, you could take the test today especially if your period did not come.

It is easier to determine the best time to take a pregnancy test if you are having a regular period, which lasts about 28 days in general.

If you have an irregular cycle, it would be best to start charting your period.

For instance, if your usual cycle range is from 30 days to 36 days, it would be best if you take your pregnancy test on day 37.

Doing so would help make sure that the result you would attain from the test is very accurate and is reliable enough.

If you have been trying out to get pregnant with the assistance of your doctor, you probably have been taking medications that trigger production of human Chorionic Gonadotropin or hCG, the hormone produced after the placenta is formed in the uterus.

If you have recently received an hCG shot to induce pregnancy, it is not ideal and is not advisable to take any form of pregnancy test because it would surely bring about inaccurate result.

Do not take a pregnancy test too early. You might be overly excited to get pregnant but when you take the test too soon, you would surely get an inaccurate finding.

Wait for a few days so you could be very confident about the accuracy of any pregnancy test you would take.

You may also start testing within two weeks after ovulation (union of egg cell and sperm cell).
