Yasmin birth control?

by Katie
(Canada)

I'm on the Yasmin birth control pill and I have only been on it for two months. I went on the pill for birth control and to regulate periods because they were really off (meaning usually late). However, I'm scared because last week I slept with my boyfriend twice without a condom. Now I am two days late, could I be pregnant or is it a side effect or something else like stress?

Yasmin birth control

Yasmin has been on the market since 2001 and claims to be 99% effective in helping prevent pregnancy when used correctly.

The product contains progestin (a form of progesterone that prevents pregnancy) and estrogen.

Yasmin pills are to be taken once a day within a period of three weeks or 21 days. There are seven placebo pills that should be taken on the remaining week of the month.

Some women also try Yasmin pills as a possible side treatment for acne and PMDD or premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Yasmin pills are thought to be an alternative birth control pill for women who are experiencing adverse side effects from using other types of oral contraceptive.

It is very important to always read, understand and follow the package directions.

Talk to your doctor and take a test

If your periods have usually been somewhat irregular then being only two days late is not something to worry too much about yet. If you have been on any pill for two months that would seem like plenty of time to be protected. Talk to your doctor and take a home pregnancy test to be sure.
